our story
australia has some of the highest rates of youth suicide in the western world, and the most vulnerable young people in our country are young people aged 12 to 25 who have little or no home support.
shalimar has developed a plan to tackle this problem head-on, using evidence-based, long-term solutions that are culturally and clinically sound.
The plan includes collaboration between:1. Qualified mental health professionals2. Local young people and youth-centred organisations3. Partners who able to provide funding for our programs
every shalimar program is custom crafted to suit local needs and interests. For example - a music or art program may grab the attention of local young people, and be a culturally appropriate way to engage. Or a community garden may be what's required.
shalimar partners with local people to use practical mediums to create therapeutic mental health programs that are grounded in evidence - including Narrative Therapy approaches, trauma-informed practice, positive psychology, CBT and DBT strategies.
shalimar believes that healing change occurs within environments that are considered by service users and their communities to be safe and enjoyable.
